The Maya have a long held sacred relationship with time: observing time as medicine and teacher, observing time through human, nature, and cosmos. The ceremonial and spiritual keeping of time known as the Tzolk’in or Cholq’ij is a 260 day count that aligns us with the governing essences of the day from sunrise to sunrise. The day is not overseen by the ticking clock but rather the guardian or nahual of the day, providing us with ways to align with time as a living prayer rather than just a timed schedule and to-do list.
Join Samantha of Hands of Mercury in this free exploration series to welcome the nahuales as we begin a new 260 day count on 8 B’atz, October 5th. We will welcome each of the 20 nahuales and 13 tones on our 20 day exploration, connecting our hearts to the creative organizing principles of this existence and the heart of the mayan fire through the ch’umilab’.
Please note: This is intended to be a small introduction in what is a vast and extensive tradition to ignite further study and exploration.
