Writing & Meditation: A Weekly Journey

about this event

Come gather at the virtual fireside as we settle our bodies, give voice to our depths, and rediscover our inspiration.

Let your spirit be nourished, your creativity kindled …

Together we’ll do some guided meditation and some writing and sharing–plus a dose of lovingkindness for good measure (because who couldn’t use a little loving up right now?).

This is the first time I’ve taught outside an institution in seven years. I want this opportunity to be as accessible as possible to the greater community. Fee is on a sliding scale of $10-50.

Tickets here. Once you’ve registered, you’ll be sent the Zoom link.

Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm Pacific time. Come for one or for them all.

About Your Guide

Hi! I’m Marisa. I’m the author of the memoir Loyal to the Sky, which won a Nautilus Gold Award for world-changing books (and has a Foreword by the inimitable Rebecca Solnit). My essays, poetry, and fiction have appeared in numerous national publications, including The Sun Magazine, Orion, Salon.com, and Witness.

I teach creative writing, meditation, transformation, and inquiry at places ranging from Stanford University to Spirit Rock Meditation Center to Esalen to the California Institute for Integral Studies. I also have the pleasure of working one-on-one with clients as a Writing Coach and a Personal Transformation Coach.

I earned my MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, and have received numerous fellowships in Creative Writing, including a Fulbright grant and an Elizabeth George Foundation grant. My poem “The Vanishing” won the Lois Cranston Memorial Poetry Prize and was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.

I’m also a dedicated spiritual practitioner. I’ve practiced Insight Meditation in retreats and daily life since 2002. I’ve practiced The Work of Byron Katie (inquiry) since 2015. I’m a committed practitioner of Authentic Movement and Somatic Experiencing. And freeform dance (Ecstatic, Biodanza, Contact Improvisation) has been a key form of embodied exploration.

Last but not least… I truly love doing this. I consider it a real privilege to hear what my students and clients share, and watch them bloom as their voices take shape.
