To practice herbalism is to practice appreciation of nature for their beauty and for their valuable resources of wild foods and medicines. The herbalist views nature as a positive force, a provider and a teacher.
Herbal medicine has been used in Asia for over 5,000 years, systems like TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Ayurveda have been the foundation of all knowledge about healing. The rest of the world followed and expanded into other herbalism systems.
If you are intersted in learning about how plants can heal, this workshop is for you. We will illustrate and give you the foundational knowledge about how plant medicine is used to restore the balance needed to stay healthy and disease-free (homeostasis).
We will review the trajectory of plant medicine through the ages, see the similarities between the major three systems (TCM, Ayurveda and Western) and understand how plant medicine (including food) is used diferently than allopatic/bio medicine to treat the individual based on their constitution and current tissue state instead of just treating the surface symptoms.
A selection of well-known herbs and their ideal method of preparation will be discussed: adaptogens, nervines, carminatives and tonics.
Topics we will discuss:
The energetic use of herbs
Ayurvedic constitutions
Addressing the underlying causes of imbalance
Materia medica: Ashwaganda and Eleuthero, Valerian and Chamomile, Peppermint and Ginger, Guduchi and Nettle.
