Rebirth: Equinox Cacao Ceremony (Online)

about this event

When working with the natural cycles of time, we honor the the path of the sun in relation to earth. Solstices. Equinoxes. Cross-quarter days. To celebrate these initiatory points on the spiral of time is to celebrate the cultural and ancestral heritage of our humanity. From Mesoamerica to Iran to europe and beyond.

In Mesoamerican Traditions, Cacao has been revered as a sacred medicine that accompanies us at the thresholds: of life, death, conflict resolution, and celebration of the path of time itself. On March 22nd, we will gather online under the guidance of 7 kawoq in accordance with the cholq’ij ceremonial count of the k’iche’ maya tradition. Kawoq, the nahual that carries the medicine of the turtle and the midwife that assists both the death of our old identity and birth of something greater into this world.

Turtle medicine also connects us to the natural cycles of time. In certain indigenous traditions, the turtle shell was recognized as a mirror to the cycles of the moon. the center of the shell reveals thirteen plates for the thirteen moons in a year. The outer perimeter shows 28 distinct plates that represent the 28 days within one lunar cycle or month. As above, so below. This is an invitation to connect our hearts and intentions with these life sustaining gifts, the medicines of kawoq and cacao as we honor sun and moon, equal day and night, humanity.

In this 2 hour virtual gathering, we will open up the sacred space to look deeply within our interior and collectively pray for our world. Weaving song and sound, words and silence, this is an opportunity to be supported in the shedding of a season and welcoming of the new. We allow the medicine of cacao to connect us to the deep slow medicine of the turtle, with its protective shell that symbolizes the feminine forces nurturing our communities and homes. We gather to honor life.

We are happy to provide resources if you need to procure ceremonial cacao for this event. Upon sign up, you will be sent a video link on how to prepare your cup of cacao.
