Clay + Flowers Workshop

about this event

A SPECIAL CERAMICS WORKSHOP DESIGNED TO NOURISH

YOUR WELLBEING AND CREATIVITY.

HOSTED BY UNTETHERED

TAUGHT BY ARTIST ELIZABETH DI PRINZIO OF EARTH + ELEMENT

AT THE BEATRICE WOOD CENTER FOR THE ARTS

We welcome you with plant-based hors d’oeuvres and floral beverages as we begin with a walkthrough of Beatrice Wood’s original home studio to explore her ceramics, drawings, and sculptures. We’ll have the privilege to hear personal anecdotes directly from the center’s director, Kevin Wallace, who worked alongside Beatrice Wood, “Beato,” during her last years in life, making us feel connected to her vivacious personality and influence in modern art history that inspired director James Cameron to create the character of Rose in the 1997 film Titanic.

We’ll then settle into the peaceful outdoor space surrounded by the Ojai hills and dive into our Clay + Flowers workshop with Earth + Element and experiment creating textures and designs using flower petals and leaves. In this workshop, you’ll be able to create whatever is calling to you, whether it be a hand-built cup, a ring dish or small bowl. You’ll have the opportunity to make three small ceramic pieces of your own — drawing inspiration from the same natural surroundings that once guided Beatrice’s famous artwork while learning from Earth + Element’s modern, rustic ceramic techniques. You’ll also learn how to glaze and use wax resist on a pre-made fired dish, that you also get to keep! Thus gaining knowledge of the complete ceramics process.

Before we wrap up the day and venture off, we’ll enjoy a chocolate tasting by Beato Chocolates, an Ojai-based chocolatier created to honor Beatrice Wood’s love for chocolates.

Ticket price ($111 artist community tix, $150 early bird tix & $200 general admission) is a sliding scale to help us offer various price points, ensuring an inclusive and diverse group as we welcome everyone. Please select your ticket thoughtfully as there is a limited number of tickets per category. Although offered at various price points, each ticket will include the same experience. All tickets are not refundable but fully transferable.

No previous ceramics experience required. All pieces made at the event will be fired that week and notified when ready for pick up, mailing can also be arranged.

About Beatrice Wood Center for the Arts
The Center celebrates the life and work of Beatrice Wood while presenting exhibitions, performances,
and art educational opportunities aimed to promote the development of insight, creativity, and the
acquisition of perennial wisdom needed to face the challenges of our ever-changing world. The center
believes art has the power to expand perception and broaden the perspective of others. Art is a means
of stimulating the senses, encouraging greater engagement, and enhancing our ability to “see”.
Painters teach us to see, craftspeople teach us to feel, writers teach us to imagine, dancers teach us
to move, filmmakers teach us to experience — these creative processes help us gain an understanding
of tools and media necessary to share experience, opening doors and expanding possibilities.
