Mama Glow Doula Meet-Up: Exploring the Path to Midwifery

about this event

Welcome doulas, midwives and care providers! We look forward to hosting you at the Soft Space by Mama Glow for a meetup that explores midwifery and doula work. This gathering is for anyone who is interested in or currently practicing in the following areas: reproductive health care, birth, postpartum, abortion, and end of life doula support. This is a safe space to learn, connect and grow.

This gathering will be facilitated by a local Certified Nurse Midwife and is a time to gather and learn more about the day-to-day life of a midwife and pathways of different birth workers. You can expect to enter an informal space and to meet like minded individuals and discover helpful resources along the way.

BIPOC, queer, disabled, and gender non-conforming folks are encouraged to attend!

About Your Guide:

Angela Ferin, Certified Nurse Midwife

Angela Ferin is a Certified Nurse Midwife, serving the community of New York City. Her passion for midwifery began over two decades ago with the birth of her first child attended to by a midwife.  Her experience in the birth world includes being a doula, childbirth educator, registered nurse, lactation counselor, and now a midwife. She received her Associates degree in Nursing from Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing, and her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing from St. Francis College. She went on to attend the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center where she earned her Master’s degree in Midwifery. Angela is also a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). She is credentialed by the American Midwifery Certification Board and is a member of The American College of Nurse Midwives.

Angela has worked across almost every aspect of reproductive health from providing obstetric care and comprehensive gynecology visits to family planning and menopause support. Having worked in healthcare systems in the U.S. and Europe, Angela learned how important it is to be mindful of cultural differences and preferences of each family and tend to their particular needs during pregnancy and beyond.  As someone who has personally given birth in various settings: at a hospital with an epidural, in a home birth setting, as well as via c-section and VBAC, Angela truly believes there is no “right way” to give birth.

As a nurse, Angela worked in a variety of settings, from summer camp nurse and high school nurse, pediatric nurse and home visit nurse, and also a birth assistant at a birthing center and at home births.  Angela has worked as a midwife at Maimonides Medical Center and Lenox Hill Hospital, and provided full-scope midwifery care in private practice at Central Park South Obstetrics and Gynecology Associates, as well as precepted midwifery students there. Currently she is working at Oula Health, with patients giving birth at Mount Sinai West.
