Re/creation Café is an eatery and creative community space that was inspired by a poem by Lawrence P Jacks called the “Master in the Art of living”:
A master in the art of living draws no sharp distinction between his work and his play; his labor and his leisure; his mind and his body; his education and his recreation. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence through whatever he is doing, and leaves others to determine whether he is working or playing. To himself, he always appears to be doing both.
― L.P. Jacks

Founded by Nick Spano, this Culver City cafe is a vibrant hub where people come together to play, connect, and rediscover their creative spirits through a combination of good food, art, and music. By blending elements of a café, an art studio, a music venue, and a community center, Re/creation has is an environment that encourages patrons to be a little more playful and creative.
The food and beverages are delicious, with ample gluten-free and/or plant-based items and a healthy selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including smoothies, elixirs, coffees, and kombucha on tap. But it’s the intentionality which really elevates the place. To cultivate conversation and community, they have a “No Computer” policy Friday—Sunday and a “Limited Computer” policy Monday—Thursday.
It has lots of indoor and outdoor seating that encourages meeting your neighbor. And it’s spacious enough for the variety of events they host: from live music (and quality sound), painting night, dance classes, yoga, book launches and more.
