WHY IT’S CONSCIOUS: Festivals can be transformative & dressing as you ARE helps foster new, authentic connections

Men, here’s your permission slip: You are allowed to shine. A festival is the perfect opportunity to ditch the basic shorts-and-tee combo and express yourself.

I interviewed an expert in men’s festival fashion, Juliet Sea, co-founder of Aces Wilder and Burning Man stylist, on how men can find their look to feel like their highest self and make the best connections. Watch the full interview, with real-world examples here:

How To Dress For Your Archetype

Juliet’s system is based on Carl Jung’s 4 archetypes: The Warrior, The Lover, The Magician (which she calls the Mystic), and the King. Her advice is, by identifying your inner archetype, you can express your authentic self.

This isn’t just about looking good for the ‘gram. It’s about personal transformation. “You are co-creating your identity,” Juliet says. So when you put on that metallic vest or that sequined cape, you’re not just dressing up — you’re leveling up.

The Warrior

According to Juliet, the Warrior Style is the easiest entry point for many men into wearing festival fashion.

Want to show your strength and discipline? Dress like the Warrior with:

  • fitted vests
  • leather
  • holsters and cuffs
  • military-inspired pieces like jumpsuits
  • marching band uniforms
  • anything that shows your physique.

The Lover

If you want to look artsy, approachable, fun, and flirty, choose the Lover by wearing:

  • patterns
  • sequins
  • color
  • shiny spandex

The Mystic

Do you prefer talking about the universe than small talk? Then invite deeper conversations by embracing your inner Mystic. And wearing:

  • organic fabrics
  • long flowing robes and scarves
  • long robes or kimonos

The King

As Juliet says, a true King is a man who has “balanced his heart, mind and body.” Become the “King” by mixing pieces from all the archetypes: The Warrior (body), the Lover (heart), and the Mystic (mind). In this example, our king wears military-inspired boots and belt with Lover sequins and a mystical scarf.

Dressing for The Elements at Burning Man

Juliet also has some practical tips:

  1. Invest in combat boots. They’re comfy, look cool, and won’t leave you with playa foot.
  2. Zip. Those. Pockets. Unless you want to visit lost and found after you misplaced your phone during a particularly vigorous dance session.
  3. Layer up. Desert nights are cold, and freezing isn’t fun.
  4. Fairy lights are your friend. They’re cheap and they’ll help your squad find you and keep art cars from running over you.
  5. Mesh kimonos are the unexpected MVP. “Mesh is breathable and also like it keeps the sun off of you,” Juliet enthuses.
