SAY HER NAME: BLACK MATERNAL MORTALITY + HONORING MOTHERS LOST

about this event

This month we celebrate mothers and we want to acknowlege and honor the lives of mothers we have lost as a result of childbirth or childbirth related causes. Black women and Native women are 4 to 5 times more likely than white women to die during childbirth or due to childbirth related causes. What does this this mean for the families that are left behind when lives are lost? How does one heal after tragedy hits and how does one spring into action to seek justice?

Join two fathers who have been directly impacted by this issue. Charles Johnson, the founder of 4Kira4Moms who became an advocate for birthing people when he tragically lost his wife Kira Johnson after a routine C-section in California. Charles will be joined by Bruce McIntyre, partner of Amber Isaac, a Bronx woman who tweeted about medical neglect and lost her life days later during childbirth. Both Kira and Amber’s stories have sparked rage, sorry, fear and action.

This webinar will be donation based and the proceeds go to both Bruce and Charles in support of families of mother’s who’s lives were lost.
