Breast Cancer Awareness Day Retreat

about this event

A retreat for those touched by breast cancer: survivors, previvors, and caregivers alike.

Get ready for a day full of yoga, meditation, journaling, and discussions with the experts to inspire a sense of community. This is a path best walked with those who understand and can support wherever you are on this journey. The programming is designed to be suited for all levels. We’ll create an authentic space to find peace amid the chaos that accompanies all that the word cancer implies. The retreat’s yoga practice is specifically designed for breast cancer patients and can be modified to meet individual needs. We will create a safe space for reflection, self-discovery, connection, introspection and sharing.

A portion of proceeds from this event will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to support their efforts and mission to educate women about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. The NBCF provides early detection screenings, including mammograms, breast health education, and a supportive community.

ABOUT OUR TEACHERS

RACHEL SANDERS

Rachel Sanders is a BRCA1 positive previvor and a giver of good vibes. She’s Midwest-raised, Miami-based, RYT 200-hour Certified Yoga Instructor through Yoga Alliance, a world traveler, a senior media sales professional, crazy dog mom and she wants to raise up the community affected by cancer through healing practices.

As a self-proclaimed ‘Type A’ person, she likes to be in control. At the age of 32 she learned that she was BRCA 1 positive. In September 2018, four years after being diagnosed with this genetic mutation (putting her at heightened risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer), Rachel underwent a prophylactic double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer. She also had a preventative salpingectomy to reduce her risk of developing ovarian cancers. Both the breast cancer and yoga communities helped in her recovery, emotionally, spiritually and physically. After her surgeries, she realized just how much her body and mind had changed. She continues to emerge as a leader in self-love, encouraging others to accept where they are on their own journey. She feels called to hold space for those affected by breast cancer and to create meaningful connections in the community.

LIZZY CHIAPPY

Lizzy Chiappy is a Miami native who grew up in motion and movement and Co-Owner of Casa Vinyasa Miami. Throughout her years, she moved through dance, cheerleading, and tennis. Her active lifestyle led her to a career in the health and fitness industry in 2010. Lizzy is certified as an E-RYT 500-hour yoga instructor and Pilates instructor through Polestar Pilates and The Pilates Method Alliance. Lizzy also founded Yogalete, a prescriptive yoga program for athletes. Her passion for incorporating yoga into athletes’ trainings, led her into the university classroom, as an adjunct professor teaching an accredited course for the University of Miami. She served as a lululemon athletica ambassador for the Coral Gables, FL community from April 2016 – August 2018. She is dedicated to guiding and growing teachers and students on their journey.
